To welcome the Year of the Monkey and kick off the most exciting Chinese New Year celebration event in San Antonio, the Chinese Society of San Antonio will host a fun-filled grand celebration on February 20, Saturday at Marriott San Antonio Northwest.
At the celebration night, following the fine sit-down dinner, you will have the opportunity to appreciate the wonderful entertaining programs including Lion dance, traditional Chinese music, folk dances, Tai Chi, martial arts, games and many more fun festivities.

Finding Autumn in Texas, enjoy the fabulous color at Lost Maples! Chinese Society of San Antonio cordially invites CSSA members and friends to join a group outing to Lost Maples on November 14, Saturday.
Lost Maples, which was opened to the public in 1979, encompasses over 2,000 acres on the Sabinal River and draws over 200,000 visitors annually. Part of Lost Maples appeal is their year around outdoor recreational opportunities, which include hiking, birding, fishing, paddle sports, and mountain climbing. However, Lost Maples’ biggest draw is the changing of the leaves each fall.
The Chinese Society of San Antonio cordially invites you and your family to this year’s Moon Festival Celebration Banquet on September 26th Saturday evening at the Pearl Inn Chinese Restaurant. The traditional Chinese Moon Festival is the second largest festival after the Chinese New Year in the Chinese Culture, it is celebrated on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month.
In the Chinese culture, a full moon is a symbol of peace, prosperity, and family reunion. On the Moon Festival night the moon is supposed to be the brightest and fullest. Every year, when Moon Festival comes, people go home from every corner of the country and the world to have a family reunion, have dinner together, and enjoy the night scene brought in by the full moon while eating moon cakes.
During the CSSA Moon Festival celebration on September 26th, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the authentic Chinese festival cuisine at one of the finest Chinese restaurants in town, along with music, games, riddles, bingo, prizes and other fun activities.
Sharing moon cakes is one of the hallmark traditions of the Moon Festival, two free moon cakes will be provided for each CSSA member family. It is a time to get-together and "make circles" with families, friends, just as the round moon cake symbolizes. We encourage you to bring your family and friends for a wonderful evening together!
The Chinese Society of San Antonio will hold its annual CSSA Bowling Social event on August 15th, Saturday this year. If you are a bowling fan or interested in trying it out, come and join us!! The Chinese Society of San Antonio is organizing a CSSA Family Fun Day event at the beautiful Botanical Garden on May 9th Saturday. Welcome members and friends to join us! Celebrate Mother’s Day Weekend in a field of flowers at the Botanical Garden. A day to have fun with the entire family!
The famous Peking Acrobats will have a show at The Tobin Center this Friday at 7:30pm.

A performance by The Peking Acrobats brings with it the opportunity to experience the epitome of a rich and ancient folk art tradition with the addition of the pageantry and spectacle of modern Chinese Theatrical Circus. Each movement or action takes many years to practice and perfect.
The 28th Annual Asian Festival will be held at the Institute of Texan Cultures on February 21, 10am-5pm this Saturday. This family-friendly event features music, cultural performances, food, fashion, crafts and other products.
At the festival, you will enjoy authentic Asian-American food from various vendors, offering Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Laotian, Philippine and other delectable cuisines. You will also have opportunity to appreciate traditional Asian dance and musical performances on three separate stages; parades; lectures on various topics; children’s activities; and craft sales including clothing, artworks, dolls, silk items and other gifts.

Texas and Taiwan has signed driver license reciprocity agreement on June 6, 2014. From now on, eligible individuals can use Taiwan passport and valid, unexpired driver license from Taiwan to exchange for Texas driver license.

The annual free concert “Music Under The Stars” on the grounds of historic Mission San José, now in its 16th year, will be held on May 9th Friday this year. This free concert, sponsored by USAA, Los Compadres and the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, continues to grow in popularity every year and attracts more than 1,800 attendees.

Chirping birds, blooming flowers, the beautiful spring season has arrived! The Chinese Society of San Antonio will host a one-day spring bus trip to Houston on April 20th, Saturday. Sightseeing includes the 43rd Annual Houston International Festival and Houston Chinatown. Houston International Festival also known as iFest, is a contemporary, multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural arts and music festival held annually in Houston, Texas. This festival takes place every April on 16 acres in downtown Houston's parks and plazas. By city ordinance this annual 10-day event is Houston's official city celebration of the visual and performing arts. This bus trip is to explore the beautiful spring in Texas, celebrate international arts, music, dance and cuisines at the Houston International Festival with visitors from all over the country, and end with a feast in Houston Chinatown. Fun games and prize drawing will be organized on the tour bus on the way to and from Houston. Prizes include free-night voucher at Hilton Hotel, etc. It will be a very fun trip.

CSSA Spring Bus Trip - May 12, Saturday
The Chinese Society of San Antonio will host a one-day bus tour on May 12, visiting the State Capitol, Austin Chinatown and taking the famous Austin Duck Adventure Tour. The tour sightseeing includes Historic Sixth Street, Bob Bullock State History Museum, the Governor’s Mansion and Lake Austin. This trip is to explore the beauty of Texas in the spring and end with a feast in Austin’s Chinatown.

The chilly winter is finally behind us, the fresh air of spring is starting to blossom! It is the perfect season to go outside and enjoy the outdoor activities with family and friends. Come and join the spring social event hosted by the Chinese Society of San Antonio at the beautiful Japanese Tea Garden and Brackenridge Park on April 7th, Saturday. Japanese Tea Garden, also known as Chinese Sunken Garden, just completed a major renovation in October 2011. It is designated as a Texas Civil Engineering Landmark, a Registered Texas Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Let’s relax and appreciate the beautiful oriental landscaping, floral plantings, goldfish ponds and the 60-foot waterfall!

Jeremy Lin(林書豪), the rising basketball star will come to San Antonio on March 7. His team New York Knicks has a game against Spurs on that day. Lin has become very famous recently and his legend has spread all over the media.

The San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA) has announced the forthcoming exhibition 5,000 Years of Chinese Jade Featuring Selections from the National Museum of History, Taiwan and the Arthur M. Sackler Collection, Smithsonian Institution. This major international exhibition organized by SAMA opens in the Museum’s Cowden Gallery on October 1, 2011. The exhibition is held in conjunction with the City of San Antonio’s yearlong celebration of Taiwan.

The Confucius Institute at UTSA will present Chinese Art Performances at Jo Long Theater by UIBE Art Troupe from China on Sunday, February 5. Performance programs include the well-renowned Chinese martial art, stunning acrobatics shows, face change magic, fascinating Chinese folk dances, Beijing opera, violin and songs.

The Chinese Society of San Antonio will host its annual Casino Night event this year on November 5th at Fortune Cookie Chinese Restaurant. The games will include Texas Hold’em, Roulette, Blackjack, Poker, Mahjong, Dice, and kids programs, etc. This is a CSSA social event, both members and non-members are welcome to join us. Chinese Memorial Mural Dedication Ceremony - Sept 25, Sunday 2-4:30pm
A Chinese memorial mural will be installed at San Antonio River near the “San Antonio Museum of Art Landing” later this month. This mural is to commemorate the early Chinese railroad workers for their contribution in Texas history.
